Positive symptoms
A
- symptoms r behaviours that the person exhibiting in addition to “normal” behaviour
- if they didn’t have SZ, they wouldn’t have this symptom
- hallucinations, delusions and disordered thinking

Negative symptoms
A
- inhibiting people with SZ from demonstrating normal behaviours such as Being unable to hold a conversation
- e.g alogia, avolition, anhedonia, flatness of effect and catatonic behaviour

Hallucinations
A
- perceptions that are unreal
- can be auditory or visual
- lewandowski estimated 20% people with SZ have tactile hallucinations ( something touching their skin) - formication is the sensation of small insects on the skin

Delusions
A
- beliefs that are unreal
- perceution - based on the idea that a person, group wants to harm the individual
- grandiosity - suggesting that the individual is special in some way

Disordered thinking
A
- derailment- examining the speech of SZ people
- the persons thoughts seem to jump from one topic to another for no reason
- show illogical flow of discussion
- SZ people feel like their head is not their own (thought insertion) - thoughts placed by a third party
