What are the behavioural symptoms of phobias?
Avoidant/anxiety response - efforts made to avoid the feared objects to reduce anxiety.
Disruption of functioning - anxiety disrupts day to day functioning.
What are the emotional symptoms of phobias?
Excessive fear.
Fear from exposure to phobia - phobias produce an immediate fear response eg, panic attacks.
What is cognitive symptom of phobias?
Recognition of exaggerated anxiety - most phobics are aware that anxiety levels from the phobia are overstated.
What is unipolar depression?
A form of depression that occurs without mania and differs from bipolar disorder.
What are behavioural symptoms of unipolar/major depression?
Loss of energy.
Social impairment - reduced levels of social interactions with friends/family.
Weight changes.
Poor hygiene.
Sleep pattern disturbance.
What are emotional symptoms of unipolar depression?
Loss of enthusiasm.
Constant depressed mood.
Worthlessness.
What are cognitive symptoms of unipolar depression?
Delusions - some experience delusions concerning guilt, punsishment etc. and some experience hallucinations.
Reduced concentration.
Thoughts of death.
Poor memory.
What is bipolar depression?
Mixed episodes of manic and depression. It is less common than unipolar depression. They have the same symptoms as unipolar depression but experience manic episodes with different symptoms.
What are behavioural symptoms of bipolar depression?
High energy levels.
Reckless behaviour.
Talkative - fast, endless speech without regard for what others are saying.
What are emotional symptoms of bipolar depression?
Elevated mood states - constant high moods with intense feelings of euphoria.
Irritability - frustrated if don’t get their way immediately.
Lack of guilt.
What are cognitive symptoms of bipolar depression?
Delusions.
Irrational thought process - reckless and irrational thinking and decision-making.
What is the difference between obsessions and compulsions?
Obsessions are the thought process which cause anxiety whereas, compulsions are the intense urges to repetitively perform the tasks to reduce anxiety.
What are behavioural symptoms of obsessions?
Hinder everyday functioning - anxiety so extreme it is difficult to do everyday tasks.
Social impairment.
What is an emotional symptom of obsessions?
Extreme anxiety.
What are cognitive symptoms of obsessions?
Recurrent and persistent thoughts.
Recognised as self-generated - they understand their obsessions and thoughts are self-invented.
Realisation of inappropriateness.
