Characteristics Of Living Organisms Flashcards
What are the 7 characteristics of living organisms
Movement Respiration Sensitivity Growth Reproduction Excretion Nutrition
What is Biology
The study of living organisms
What is movement
Living things are able to move. Animals can usually move their whole bodies, while plants may just move parts of themselves.
What is respiration
All living things need energy so they break down food ( glucose ) in their cells to release energy.
What is the equation for respiration ?
Glucose + oxygen ——–> Carbon dioxide + water + energy
What is Sensitivity
Sensitivity is the ability to detect change the environment and respond to this change
What aid sensitivity and give 2 examples
Sense organs
Eg. Eyes and Noses
How do plants detect change ?
Through stimuli as light or temperature changes
What is growth
When living organism change in size
What is reproduction?
Organisms reproduce so not to become extinct
Why is Excretion important and where do chemical reactions from this take place ( not organ name, but cell name )
It is important for living organisms to be able to remove waste products that build up and this occurs in the cell cytoplasm
What does nutrition provide living organisms with ?
It provides them with energy and materials they need to build up and maintain their bodies.
