Support individualism within the framework of politics and soiety
Western Democracies (Nations)
Most are liberal democracies, regardless of which political party forms the government
Liberal Societies
Guarantee certain rights and freedoms: ie. freedom of speech, freedom of association, and the right to vote
Self-Interest
Central to liberal economies. Citizens are free to pursue their own interest, even if it isn’t beneficial to general society, so long as it is legal and does not harm citizens
The “Rule of Law”
The concept that no one is above the law (including political leaders)
Rule of Law exits…
to protect people and property from harm or abuse. Citizens may not infringe on the rights of others: ie. hurt others, take their good, enter their homes without permission
Citizens in liberal societies…
may own private property and legally consume what they own as they choose
