Collectivist societies
restrict the freedom of individuals when necessary for the good of the society as a qhole
Collectivism
encompasses a wide varity of ideologies and societies: communism, fascism, agricultural cooperatives, some religious communities, etc.
Central idea of collectivism:
people work together to achieve a common goal: ie. communal sharing of rewards or benefits leads to economic equality
Shared common interest:
people achieve a common profit form their labour
A Collective Economy
the goal is to eliminate economic inequality–all citizens have the same wealth
Collective Social and Political Views
people are expected to adhere to the views of the collective or face social pressure or totalitarian suppression
