What is the antagonist?
This is a character in a story that opposes the other character. Mat be referred to as the enemy.
What is bildungsroman?
This is a novel that shows the maturation of the protagonist, usually going from child to adult.
What is a coming-of-age story?
This is also a novel that shows the maturation of the protagonist, usually going from child to adult.
What is epiphany?
The sudden and striking realization.
What is foil?
The contrasting character who allows the protagonist to stand out more distinctly.
What is a flat character?
This is a character who only has one or two traits and lacks character development, and is also known as a static character.
What is direct characterization?
This is where the narrator tells the reader who the character is by describing the background, motivation, or appearance of the character.
What is indirect characterization?
This is where the author shows, rather than telling us what the character is like through what the character says and does.
What is the protagonist?
This is the main character and is often a hero but not always.
What is a round character?
This is a character who has lots of emotion and evolves over the course of the story.
What is a stock character?
This is a flat character whos based on stereotype and is immediately recognizable.
