chapters 7 ventilation, perfusion, shock Flashcards
Difference between Aerobic & Anaerobic metabolism
Aerobic: Performed when oxygen is present.
Anaerobic: Performed in the absence of oxygen
what is cardiac output?
the amount of blood ejected from the heart in one minute
Chemoreceptors
Detects levels of carbon Dioxide & oxygen
Define: Dead air space
it is the air that is between the mouth and alveoli but it doesnt reach the area of gas exchange
diaphoresis
cool, pale, sweaty skin
hydrostatic pressure
the pressure within the blood vessel that tends to push water out of the vessel
perfusion
the supply of oxygen and removal of waste from the cells and tissues
stretch receptor
sensors in blood vessels that identify internal pressure
Define: Minute Volume
The amount of air moved in and out of the lungs over a minute. It’s calculated by multiplying tidal volume x respiratory rate.
what large protein attracts water from the body into the bloodstream?
plasma oncotic pressure
stroke volume
the amount of blood ejected from the left ventricle of the hearts during each contraction
Define: Systemic Vascular Resistance (SVR)
the pressure in the vessels the heart must pump against
Hypertension abnormally increases the..
Systemic vascular resistance (SVR)
Tidal Volume
The amount of air that moves in/out of the lungs in a single breath cycle
the product of tidal volume and ventilation rate is
minute volume
