when would you not use a nasopharyngeal on a patient
when there is facial trauma
bronchoconstriction
the contraction of smooth muscle that result in a decrease in the internal diameter of the airway and increase in resistance to airflow
Define: head-tilt ,chin-lift maneuver
and when is it used?
tilting the head back and lifting the chin.
Used when no trauma, injury is suspected. used to open the airway.
Define: Jaw- Thrust Maneuver
When is it used?
moving the jaw forward without tilting the head or neck.
Used when there is trauma or injury. ONLY recommended airway procedure for unconscious patients.
Stridor
A high pitched sound from a obstructed airflow in the upper airway
sniffing postions
extension of the head for pediatric patients
if you don’t have the right size oropharyngeal airway for you patient..
