What is The Cerebrovascular Syndrome?
The Cerebrovascular Syndrome occurs when a mammal receives a total body dose of about 100 Gy of gamma rays or equivalent in neutrons. Cerebralvascular damage brings death within 24 to 48 hrs, too quickly for someone to experience symptoms due to the failings of organs.
What is the Prodromal Radiation Syndrome?
The Prodromal Radiation Syndrome is a stage at the beginning of Acute Radiation Syndrome.
What is the Gastrointestinal Syndrome?
The Gastrointestinal Syndrome is a type of Acute Radiation Syndrome in which a total body exposure of more that 10 Gy gamma rays is received, death occurs 3-10 days later. Characteristic symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and prolonged diarrhea.
What is the Hematopoietic Syndrome?
The Hematopoietic Syndrome is a type of Acute Radiation Syndrome that occurs at 2.5 to 5 Gy. If death occurs, it is a result of radiation damage to the hematopoietic system. Mitotically active precursor cells are sterilized by the radiation and the subsequent supply of mature red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets is diminished. When mature circulating cells begin to die off weeks later, there is no replacement and the effects are felt.
What is LD50?
It is the dose of any agent or material that causes a mortality rate of 50% in an experimental group within a specified period.
What is cutaneous radiation injury?
Cutaneous radiation injury is injury to the skin caused by radiation, such as burns.
What is RBE?
Relative Biological Effectiveness. It is the ratio of: Dose of 250 kV x-rays to give a certain effect to Dose of other radiation to give same effect
