Chapters 10-11 Flashcards
What is the time interval between irradiation and the appearance of a malignancy called?
The latent period.
What is the relative risk model?
The natural risk model assumes that the effect of radiation is to increase the natural incidence (of cancer) at all ages subsequent to exposure by a given factor.
What is the absolute risk model?
The absolute risk model assumes that radiation induces a “crop” of cancers over and above the natural incidence unrelated to it.
What is the time dependent relative risk model?
The time dependent relative risk model assumes that the excess incidence of cancer was assumed to be a function of dose, the square of the dose, age at exposure, and time since exposure. For some tumors, gender must be added as a variable - for example, in the case of breast cancer.e
