What is equality of opportunity?
Giving people an equal chance to succeed
What is “Americanism?”
An ideology or belief in devotion, loyalty, or allegiance to the United States of America
What is equality of result?
Making certain people achieve the same result
What is Americans class consciousness?
A belief that you are a member of an economic group whose interests are opposed to people in other such groups
What’s the tenth amendment?
The elastic and proper clause that says that those powers not given to the federal government are reserved to the States
What is devolution?
The transfer of power away from the federal government and back to the states
What is political culture?
A patterned and sustained way of thinking about how political and economic life ought to be carried out
What is political ideology?
A more or less consistent set of beliefs about what policies government ought to pursue
What is American culture war?
There are the orthodox that want things to stay the same as they’ve always been and there are the progressive who, unlike orthodox, don’t think everything should revolve around religion
What is the protestant work ethic?
the view that a person’s duty is to achieve success through hard work and thrift, such success being a sign that one is saved.
