Chapters 1 + 2 Review science Flashcards
Identify and label the parts of a transverse wave
WAVE:
〰〰〰〰〰〰〰〰〰〰〰
The high point on the transverse wave is the crest
The low point on the transverse wave is the trough
Describe a mechanical wave & different types of mechanical waves
- A wave that requires a medium to travel through *
Transverse, Longitudinal, Surface Waves
Identify and label the parts of a longitudinal wave
WAVE:
➰➰➰➰
When the particles are close together it’s the compression
When the particles are far apart it’s the compression
Identify amplitude and wave length on a transverse wave
Amplitude: from the rest position to the crest/trough
Wavelength: from 2 corresponding parts of a wave (crest to crest OR trough to trough)
Know the difference between the amplitude, wavelength, frequency and speed of a wave
Amplitude: the height of a waves crest or trough or how compressed or rarefied
Wavelength: the distance between 2 corresponding parts of a wave
Frequency: how often a wave occurs in a given amount of time
Speed: how far a wave travels in a given amount of time
How the amount of energy in a wave effects the amplitude
The more energy the wave has the higher amount the amplitude
How wavelength effects the frequency of a wave
When the wavelength is short the frequency is quicker and if the wavelength is longer the frequency is shorter
How to describe frequency in hertz
The unit is called Hertz (Hz)
