Chapter 3 Electromagnetic waves VOCAB Flashcards
- Electromagnetic spectrum
Is made up of radio waves, microwaves, inferred waves, visible light, ultraviolet rays, x-rays, and gamma rays. The complete range of electromagnetic waves placed in the order of increasing frequency
- Electromagnetic wave
A transverse wave that is made up of vibrating electric and magnetic fields that move through space or sone medium a the speed of light.
- Radio waves
Electromagnetic waves with the longest wavelength and lowest frequencies
Microwaves
Short wavelength and higher frequencies than radio waves
Radar
A system that uses reflected radio waves to detect objects and measure their distance and speed
Infrared rays
Electromagnetic waves with wavelength shorter than microwaves. Carry more energy than micro waves often called heat waves
Thermogram
An image that shows regions of different temperatures in different colors
Visible light
Electromagnetic waves you can see
Ultraviolet rays
Electromagnetic waves with a shorter frequency that you can see, carries more energy than visible light and can kill living cells
X-rays
Electromagnetic waves with a shorter Wave length then ultraviolet rays and carry more energy than ultra violent and can penetrate most matter
Gamma rays
Shortest wavelength, and fastest frequency
