Benzocaine Spray Trade Name
Hurricane
Benzocaine Spray (Hurricane) Indications
Used as a lubricant and topical anesthetic to facilitate passage of diagnostic and treatment devices. Suppresses the pharyngeal and tracheal gag reflex.
Benzocaine Spray (Hurricane) Contraindications
Patients with a known hypersensitivity to benzocaine.
Benzocaine Spray (Hurricane) Dosage
Adult: 0.5 - 1.0 second spray
Pediatric: 0.25 - 0.5 second spray
Repeat as needed

Adult: 10-100 mg IV (1 mg / kg slow IV Bolus)
Pediatric: 0.25 - 1.0 mg/kg/dose IV/IO/IM

Glaucoma Coma Shock Substance Abuse Head Injury
Diazepam (Valium) Dose
Seizure Activity:
Adult: 5 - 10 mg IV every 10 - 15 min as needed (5 mg over 5 min)
Pediatric: 0.2 - 0.5 mg slowly every 2 - 5 min up to 5 mg (max dose 10 mg/kg)
Rectal:
0.5 mg / kg & flush with 2 - 3 ml air
Cardioversion:
5 - 15 mg IV over 5 - 10 min
