chapter1 document 3 Flashcards
Meiosis
is a reductional cell division which a diploid stem cell gives rise to 4 different haploid gametes. It takes place in the gonads
First cell division
Reductional (chromosomes number is decreased into half) and is preceded by DNA replication
Second cell division
Equational (number of chromosomes is constant) without interphase
Importance of meiosis
Meiosis is important for production of gametes needed for fertilization
prophase I
Crossing over Pairing of homologous chromosomes, formation of tetrads, synapse
metaphase I
during prophase I I and the Homologous chromosomes align as tetrads at the equatorial plate
Anaphase I
random orientation of chromosomes lead to variety among gametes, random segregation of homologous chromosomes
telophase I
2 daughter cells made up of n chromosomes , 2 sister chromatids each
metaphase II
Individual n chromosomes align at the equatorial plate
anaphase II
segregation of sister chromnatides N chromosomes
