Chapter Two - The Importance Of Replication Flashcards
Universalism
The assumption that phenomena observed in a study can be generalised to other contexts
Sample
Subset of the population of interest that is studied in a piece of research
Sampling
The process of selecting participants for a study
Sampling error
This refers to the fact that any sample, however chosen, is unlikely to represent exactly the population from which it was drawn
Replication
When a result from a research study is found again in a subsequent study. Replication is important to establishing the reliability of a finding
Cycle of enquiry
The way in which the questions that research addresses are often derived from theories or explanations, and the findings of that research that generate new questions or refinements to theory or explanation.
