Chapter Three: Cell Structures And Their Functions Flashcards
What is cell?
It is the basic living unit of all organisms.
What is organelle?
Within cells, it is a specialized structure that perform specific function.
What is nucleus and where is it located?
Nucleus is often located on the center of the cell.
What is ribosomes and where is it located?
Ribosome is located in cytoplasm it is the site of protein synthesis.
What is DNA?
DNA is Deoxyribonucleic acid
What is RNA?
RNA is ribonucleic acid.
What is Rough Endoplasmic reticulum?
Rough Endoplasmic reticulum is located in the cytoplasm, where there are many ribosomes attached and is also the site of protein synthesis.
What is smooth endoplasmic reticulum?
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum is located also in the cytoplasm, which is the site of lipid synthesis.
What is golgi apparatus?
Golgi apparatus is located in the cytoplasm, it modifies protein structure and packages protein in secretary vesicle.
What is secretory vesicle?
Secretory vesicle is located in the cytoplasm, It contains materials produced in the cell formed by the Golgi apparatus, secreted by exocytosis.
What is lysosome?
Lysosome is located in the cytoplasm it contains enzymes that digest material taken into the cell.
What is peroxisome?
Peroxisome is located in the cytoplasm, It breaks down fatty acids, amino acids, and hydrogen peroxide.
What is mitochondrion and where is it located?
Mitochondrion is located in the cytoplasm and it supports cytoplasm; assists in cell division and forms components of cilia & flagella.
