Chapter Three Flashcards
Nucleus is bound in this double membrane barrier
Nuclear Membrane
A dense central body in most cells containing the genetic material of the cell.
Nucleus
The structures in the nucleus that carry the hereditary factors (genes)
Chromatin
Barlike body of tightly coiled chromatin; visible during cell division
Chromosomes
The tiny projections on the free surfaces of some epithelial cells; increase surface area for absorption.
Microvilli
The substance of a cell other than that of the nucleus
Cytoplasm
Semitransparent fluid that suspends the other elements.
Cytosol
The rod like cytoplasmic organelles responsible for ATP generation for cellular activities.
Mitochondria
Cytoplasmic organelles at which proteins are synthesized.
Ribosomes
A membranous network of tubular or saclike channels in the cytoplasm of a cell.
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Appears as a sack of flattened membranous sacs, associated with swarms of tiny vesicles
Golgi apparatus
Organelles that originate from the Golgi apparatus and contain strong digestive enzymes
Lysosomes
Elaborate network of protein structures that extends throughout the cytoplasm; acts as bones and muscles of cell
Cytoskeleton
A minute body found near the nucleus of the cell composed of microtubules; active in cell divisions.
Centrioles
Set of instructions for building a new nucleotide strand
Template
