Looking glass self
One’s self growth out of societies interpersonal interactions and perceptions of others.
Self concept
The content of self knowledge about oneself, using the first person, “I”, perspective.
Personal agency
One’s own recognition that they can be a part of a cause in the current situation or event.
Self recognition
The ability to recognize one’s reflection in a mirror or self in a photograph and is consciously aware that they actually are seeing oneself.
Rouge test
A test that allows a participant learn self recognition by using makeup to mark the person’s face and seeing their reaction once he or she is in front of a mirror.
Theory of mind
That people are cognitive beings with desires, beliefs, and intentions which are not shared or accessible towards others and they need behavioral guidances.
False belief task
A method to assess ones understanding of people who withholds incorrect beliefs that also influences their conducts.
Self esteem
Where one evaluates their own worth based on their self concept qualities.
False self behavior
One’s own act of how they want to be, but does not reflect their true self.
Social comparison
One’s method to define and evaluate themselves towards their peers.
Social cognition
One’s understanding that their peers have their own mental states, abilities to gauge their feelings, and intentions and emotions towards them.
Identity
One’s general sense of who he or she is, where they will be in their life, and how they fit in today’s society.
Ethnic identity
One’s general sense of belonging in an ethnic group and commitment towards its traditions and cultural ways.
Self
The composed self concept and self awareness, thoughts and beliefs, about oneself.
