What is the purpose of the CPU
It is an electronic board that is part of the motherboard which understands and executes the commands from the hardware and software of the computer
What is the purpose of ROM in a computer?
ROM stores the instructions which is a code that tells the computer what to do when it first starts up; this is called the basic input and output system
What is the purpose of RAM?
It is used to store data which is part of the operating systems currently in use
What is an operating system and its use?
It allows the user to communicate with the computer system and let the computer system to function
What are four different types of user interfaces?
Command line interface (CLI)
Graphical user interface (GUI)
Dialogue-based user interface
Gesture-based user interface
Describe Command line interface (CLI)
Command line interface requires a user to type in instructions to choose options from menus, open software, etc. The user would need to memorise multiple commands just to do basic stuff.
Describe Graphical user interface (GUI)
Graphical user interface allows users to interact with a computer using icons rather than typing in commands
What are the advantages of CLI
The users are not restricted to a number of pre-determined options
The user is in direct communication with the computer
It is possible to change the settings of the computer
What are the disadvantages of CLI
Users have to memorise many commands to control the system
It will be time wasting to type in the commands
The commands should be typed in with no errors
What are the advantages of GUI
It is more user-friendly as applications are used to represent applications
Saves time as you just need to point and click
The user does not need to learn any commands
What are the advantages of desktop computers over laptop computers
Desktop computers are easier and less expensive to upgrade
Desktops tend to have better specifications like faster processors
Internet connection would be more stable as it is plugged straight in
