What is an expert system?
Expert systems are developed to mimic the expertise and knowledge of an expert in a particular field
What are the advantages and disadvantages of an expert system?
The advantages are that they offer high accuracy, consistent results, ability to store vast amount of facts and information, offer a very fast response time. The disadvantages are that the users of the system need a lot of training to use it correctly, the set up and maintenance cost
What does an expert system contain?
User interface
Explanation system
Inference engine
Knowledge base
Rules base
How do you set up an expert system?
Information needs to be gathered from experts or textbooks to give to the knowledge base, a rules base needs to be created, the inference engine needs to be set up since it is the main processing element, user interface needs to be created and the system needs to be fully tested
What is a POS terminal?
Point of sale terminals scans the barcode, retrieve the price of the product and relays information back to the computer system to update it’s files
