what are lines of longitude ?
the vertical lines on a map that go from north to south or south to north. they contain the prime meridian.
what are lines of latitude ?
the horizontal lines on a map that go from west to east or east to west.
they contain the equator.
what is the equator ?
an imaginary horizontal line drawn around the middle of the earth.
what is site ?
the physical character of a place.
What is a scale ?
Generally the relationship between the distance on Earth and earth as a whole.
what is the prime meridian ?
an imaginary vertical line drawn around the middle of the earth.
what is a choropleth map ?
a colored map in which areas are shaded or patterned by what they’re measured or measuring.
what is diffusion ?
the spread of a feature, trend, or idea from one place to another over time. there are different kinds of diffusion.
what is hearth ?
the region from which innovative ideas originate.
what are the five types of diffusion ?
hierarchy diffusion, contagious diffusion, expansion diffusion, stimulus diffusion, relocation diffusion
what is relocation diffusion ?
the spread of a feature or trend through bodily movement of people from one place to another ( ex ; Billy lives in Africa and they have a popular dance the do there. Billy moves to America and the popular dance moves with him too. America then also starts to do it )
what is stimulus diffusion ?
the spread of a feature or trend in which one people receives a culture element from another but gives it a new and unique form ; a twist to the idea.
what is hierarchical diffusion ?
the spread of a feature or trend that is expensive or rich in value. ( ex ; iPhone )
what is expansion diffusion ?
the spread of a feature or trend that increases space and population over time ; more and more people.
what is contagious diffusion?
the spread of a idea or trend that anyone can get. ( ex ; a disease )
what is abiotic ?
composed of non-living or inorganic matter.
what is biotic ?
composed of living or organic matter.
what is atmosphere ?
the thin layer of gasses surrounding earth.
what is biosphere ?
all living organisms on earth, including plants, animals, and microorganisms.
what is cartography ?
the science of making maps.
what is climate ?
the long term, average weather condition at a particular location.
what is concentration ?
how high or low the spread of something over a given area is.
what is connection ?
relashionship a among people and objects across the barrier of space.
what is conservation ?
the sustainable management of a natural resource.
what is cultural ecology ?
a geographic approach that emphasizes human-environment relationships.
what is cultural landscape ?
the fashioning of a natural landscape by a cultural group.
what is culture ?
the body of beliefs, social forms, and material traits that together constitute a good distinct tradition.
what is distance decay ?
when an idea or culture isn’t as important anymore the farther you get from it’s origin.
what is distribution ?
the arrangement of something across earths surface.
what is ecology ?
the scientific study of ecosystems.
what is the ecosystem ?
a group of living organisms and the abiotic spheres with which they interact.
what is environmental determinism ?
when the physical environment causes human activities ; when the physical characteristics of a place have an effect on what humans do
