a clinical term for white patch or plaquelike lesion on the oral mucosa that cannot be rubbed off
pallor
paleness of the skin or muscosal tissue

bulla
a circumscribed elevated lesion that is more then 5 mm (looks like a blister)
lobule
a segment or lobe that is part of the whole, appear fused together
macule
an area that is usually distinguished by a color different from that of the surround tissue
nodule
a papable solid lesion up to greater than 1 cm
pedunculated
attached by stemlike or stalklike base similar to mushroom
sessile
the base of a lesion that is flat or broad instead of stemlike
coalescence
the process by which parts of a whole join together to make one
diffuse
describes a lesion with borders that are not well defined making it impossible to detect the exact parameters of the lesion
multilocular
describes a lesion that extends beyond the confided area (soap bubbles)
radiolucent
describes the black and dark areas of a radiograph, less dense tissue = darker
radiopaque
describes the light or white area on a radiograph, more dense = lighter
external root resorption
arises from tissue outside the tooth such as periodontal ligament
internal root resorption
reaction from inside the tooth
unilocular
having one compartment or unit that is well defined or outlined
