Why did Jesus establish the Catholic Church
1) To leave a visible sign of his presence (in the world after He ascended into heaven
2) to leave a channel of His grace (that could b communicated to mankind as a continuation of His work of Salvation
3) to continue his mission:
a) to teach us (through SS)
b) to sanctify us (through the 7 sacraments)
c) to govern us (through the pope)

1) unity of faith= all her members accept the same truths of teaching
2) unity of communion= all of her members submit to her authority which is the magisterium
How is the church Holy
She is worthy of reverence because Jesus Christ is the All-Holy God
Not because her members are all holy
Jesus Christ is the head of the church and he is holy
How is he church catholic
Means universal
She is universal in scope and mission
Scope- wants to be present everywhere, in every place
Mission- wants to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to every human being in the world
