Employee selection
Is the process of choosing the most suitable candidate who meets the job requirements
Methods include
- Interviews
- Psychological testing
- Work testing

Interviews
Advantage - Able to see how an employee copes under pressure when face to face
Disadvantage - Some candidates may not perform to their best in an interview but are better when put into the job environment
Psychological testing
Is a scientific method of examining a job applicant’s behavioural style and reasoning skills
Advantage - Candidates with poor interview skills are able to prove themselves in another way
Disadvantage - Candidates may not provide honest answers
Work testing
Businesses use work testing to determine how well candidates perform in work situations
Advantage - Ability to witness how a potential candidate copes under pressure
Disadvantage - Time-consuming for both the employees and candidates
Online selection
Advantage - A wider range of candidates may increase the chance to find the right person for the job
Disadvantage - Difficult for candidates to demonstrate their skills through a video screen
