Chapter 9.1 Circuits Flashcards
Is current the same or different in a series circuit
The same through out circuit
What happens to resistors placed in a series circuit?
Resistors increase resistance and decrease current.
What is a parallel circuit
A parallel circuit is a circuit with one more more pathways for the electrons
What is a junction point?
The place where the path separates
What is the current like in a parallel circuit?
Current in each path adds up to the total current supplied by the source.
What happens when current enters the junction point?
When current enters the junction point it divides among the possible paths
Do voltages in parallel circuits change?
No they don’t.
What happens when a resistor I placed in a parallel circuit?
Circuit increases resistance decreases
In an electric circuit what does the battery supply?
In an electric circuit, the battery supplies electric potential energy to the electrons through potential difference.
The current entering a junction point must?
The total current entering a junction point must equal the amount leaving.
In a series circuit how does the voltage supplied by the battery compare to the voltages on each load?
Supplied voltages must equal the sum of voltage drops across the loads.
Is the current in one branch of a parallel circuit more, less or equal to the total current entering the junction point?
It’s equal too.
What is electrical power?
Is the rate at which electric potential energy is being transformed.
What is one joule of electric potential energy transformed into?
One watt (W)
How can electrical power be calculated?
Multiplying voltage and current.
