What was surrender and regrant?
King Henry asked the Irish to surrender (give up) there land and he would give them (regrant) an English title but legally owned the land.
What was the disadvantage of surrender and regrant?
King Henry could confiscate land given to him during surrender and regrant giving it to loyal English settlers this was known as plantation.
What was the first plantation and who led it?
Laois-Offaly= Queen Mary I
What was the second plantation and who led it?
Munster Plantation= Queen Elizabeth I

-It was a failure
-Did not attract enough planters
-Gaelic planters had to be given land
-The confiscated lands were still attacked by the Gaelic Irish making English settlers not want the land.
Name four results of the Munster plantation?
-Crown hoped for 20,000 settlers, but only had 4,000
-They still had to rent to the Gaelic Irish, as estates were too large to be managed by planters alone
-Gaelic Irish continued to attack the plantation
-New farming methods were bought to Ireland e.g Tillage Farming (crop farming)
-New trades came to Ireland- coopering (making timber barrels)
