Chapter 9 - The Mole Concept Flashcards
What is Avogadro’s number/constant?
6.023 x 10²³
Mole
A mole of a substance is the amount of that substance that contains 6.023 x 10²³ particles of that substance
What is the mass of 3 moles of Al atoms? (Mr = 27)
1 mole of Al = 27g
3 moles of Al = 27g x 3 = 81g
Relative molecular mass
(of a compound) is the average mass of one molecule of that compound compared with 1/12 of the mass of one atom of the carbon-12 isotope. Its symbol is Mr, but it has no units
Standard Temperature and Pressure
Standard set of conditions for experimental measurements, to enable comparisons to be made between a set of data
What is standard temperature?
273K or 0°C
What is standard pressure?
1 x 10^5 Pa or 100kPa
Molar volume
Volume occupied by one mole of a substance (chemical element or compound) at a given temperature and pressure
What is the molar volume of an ideal gas at 100kPa (1 bar)?
- 4 dm³/mol @ 0°C
24. 8 dm³/mol @ 25°C
dm³ = ?
litres
What is the final calculations table we use for moles?
