CHAPTER 9 Flashcards
Sacromere
the region between two successive z discs. smallest contractile unit of a muscle fiber
Poperties of Muscular Tissue
Excitability
Contractility- DIFFERENTIATES MUSCLES FROM ALL OTHER TISSUES
Extensibility
Elasticity
Muscle Excitability
(responsiveness) the ability for the cell to receive and respond to stimulus by changing it membrane potential. Typically a chemical stimulus.
Contractility
he ability to shorten forcibly when adequately stimulated. THIS SETS MUSCLES APART FROM OTHER TISSUE TYPES
Extensibility
the ability to extend or contract. Muscle cells shorten when contracting, but they can stretch, even beyond their resting length, when they are at rest.
Elasticity
the ability for the muscle to recoil and resume its resting length after stretching
Connective Tissue Sheaths
Endomysium
Perimysium
Epimysium
Endomysium
dense irregular connective tissue that surrounds the whole muscle
Perimysium
layer of dense irregular connective tissue that surrounds fascicles (muscle fiber bundles)
Epimysium
wispy sheath of connective tissue that surrounds each individual muscle fiber. consists of fine areolar connective tissue
