Chapter 9 Flashcards
What is memory?
Memory is the group of mechanisms or processes by which experience shapes us, changing our brains and our behaviour
What are the two types of amnesia
-Anterograde amnesia is the deficit in new learning, resulting in impairment in memory of information requiring after the onset of amnesia
-Retrograde amnesia is the impairment in memory of information that was acquired normally prior to the onset of amnesia, a deficit stretching back in time after the onset of amnesia
What regions are damaged in Amnesia?
Amnesia occurs after the damage to the hippocampal region, or to midline diencephalic structures, such as the dorsomedial nucleus of the thalamus and the mammillary bodies of the hypothalamus
