- successful not only winning battle of spurs (claimed in propaganda to be stunning victory) but also capturing Therouanne and Tournai

- King James IV crossed border with substantial force
- defeated by smaller English army hurriedly put together and capably led by veteran soldier Earl of Surrey
- James killed along with much of Scottish nobility
- this left throne of Scotland in hands of infant James V

what was gained from Henry’s military adventures of 1513

- Henry did little to build on advantage flooded had given him
- war was very costly and forced Henry to liquidate assets inherited from father to pay for it
- rerun of problems in 1489 = rumblings about taxation in Yorkshire which only narrowly failed to turn into full scale revolt
- the renegotiated French pension was lost
- Tournai eventually sold back to French for much less than English had paid to repair its defences after the siege
