Chapter 8 (warning, caution, notes) Flashcards
Shoulder harness locks - Check for proper operation of the two position harness inertia reellock lever. (W)
(W) Secure all loose straps to eliminate emergency egress snags.
Cockpit Equipment Checks (N)
(N) While fully restrained, the pilot must be able to reach all
- primary flight controls
- propulsion controls
- emergency controls
APU CONTR switch - ON (N, N)
(N) If the APU does not start and the APU ACCUM LOW advisory does not appear with the APU CONTR switch ON, a manual start may be attempted.
(N) If the APU fails, note BITE indications before cycling BATT switch or attempting another start.
APU generator switch - ON (W)
(W) Clear the stabilator area - the stabilator will move to the full down position.
EDECU - Check signal validation code 15 % (C, C, C)
(C) Ensure 0% or 15% is indicated on the TRQ indicator.
If 25% is displayed - do not fly the helicopter.
(C) Contained in statement above.
(C) Contained in statement above.
Doppler/GPS - On and program (N)
(N) Only use map datums WGS-84 and NAD-27
*Ft. Rucker: Use map datum 47
Caution/advisory/warning panels - check as required (N, N)
(N) If LOW ROTOR RPM is pulsating in DIM mode - Any cautions or advisories may pulsate as well
(N) The lights on the VSI/HSI and CIS may change when testing the caution/advisories lights. Restore changed light afterwards.
Flight Controls - Check first helicopter flight of the day (W, W, N)
(W) Ensure no personal gear is interfering with flight control.
Move gear to eliminate restriction of flight controls.
(W) If #1 or #2 PRI SERVO PRESS appears during collective movement, a servo bypass valve may be jammed. If so - Do not fly the helicopter
(N) Maximum 1.5 inches of free play during collective and pedal movement.
Stabilator - Check (W, N)
(W) If any part of the stabilator check fails do not fly the helicopter.
(N) Use the right-side STAB POS indicator. The left indicator may vary with +/- 2°
Engine(s) - Start (C, N, C, N, C, C)
(C) If start is attempted with ingition switch OFF, do not place switch ON. Abort the start.
(N) Do not use the FUEL BOOST PUMP CONTROL switches to extinguish the #1 or #2 FUEL PRESS lights.
(C) To avoid damage to starter, do not move EPCL from IDLE to OFF while pressing starter button.
(N) If ENGINE STARTER caution disappears with EPCL in OFF, manual press and hold starter until reaching 52-65%.
(C) If starting the engine within an hour of last shutdown, motor the starter for 60 seconds before advancing EPCLs.
(C) Keep cyclic and pedels centered and collective no more than 1 inch above full down until % RPM R reaches minimum 50%
Emergency shutdown criteria (abort start)
- No % RPM R within 45 seconds.
- No TGT TEMP increase within 45 seconds.
- No ENG OIL PRESS within 45 seconds.
- ENGINE STARTER caution disappears (before 52% Ng)
- TGT TEMP reaches 851° before idle is attained (63% Ng)
Hydrauic leak test system - Check (N, N)
(N) If holding the switch in the test position, the system will not be checked, because the circuits is manual hold open.
(N) If backup pump is still running after test, move BACKUP HYD PUMP switch to OFF and the to AUTO.
Tail rotor servo transfer - Check (N)
(N) If BACK-UP PUMP ON or #2 TAIL RTR SERVO ON does not appear, there is a failure in the LDI system.
ENG POWER CONT lever(s) - FLY (W)
(W) Restrict rate of EPCL is movement, to avoid helicopter turning.
GPS/DPLR NAV MODE selector - As desired (N)
(N) Do not leave the switch in TEST function. This will delete any preprogrammed routes
