a pair of thick folds of skin, connective tissue, and adipose tissue. in postpubescent females, their outer surface is covered with coarse hair, and the inner surface has numerous sweat and sebaceous glands

a pair of thin folds of hairless skin immediately internal to the labia majora. sebaceous glands are present on these folds, together with melanocytes that give the folds a dark melanin pigmentation. anteriorly, the labia minora join together to form the prepuce (hood) of the clitoris. posteriorly they merge with the labia majora
