Chapter 8 The Equalizer Vocab Flashcards
Equalizer
allows us boost or attenuate frequency certain frequencies or frequency bands (group of frequencies)
Peak Filter
A peak- shaped bell curve that boosts or attenuates frequencies around a selected center frequency
Bandwidth
The amount of frequencies included in a band (how many frequencies will be affected to the left and right of the center frequency)
The quality factor
(the Q) the width of the EQ band that you are adjusting. A wide Q - value would mean that you are adjusting a wider area of hertz, while a narrow Q would affect fewer frequencies.
The Q is simply the tool used to adjust the size of your bandwidth.
Shelving Filters
A rise or drop in frequency response at a selected frequency, which tapers off to a preset level and continues at that level to the end of the audio spectrum.
High/Low Pass Filter
allows certain frequencies to be passed at full volume while other sections of the spectrum are attenuated.
Cutoff Frequency
Frequency at which the signal is attenuated or cut
Notch Filter
Used to zero in on a certain frequency and remove it
