Five Stages of Sleep

(four stages nonREM + REM)
1) brain waves: smaller, irregular; easily awakened; can faintly recall being awakened
2) brainwaves: increase; not awakened by slight sounds
3) Breathing and heart rate slow; body temperature drops; more difficult to wake up
4) (when “sleepwalkers” active); need shaking or loud noises to wake up
