Ghost newspapers
Not much actual local news, and often carry syndicated content from other newspapers.
Two general types of newspapers:
Political and commercial
Partisan press
This pushes the strategy of the political party that created the paper.
Penny papers
lower cost for newspapers because of replacing mechanical presses for steam-powered presses.
Human interest stories
News accounts of focusing on daily trials and triumphs of the human condition.
Wire services
commercial organizations that relayed news stories and info around the country and world. (First used telegraph lines -> then to radio waves and digital transmission..
Yellow journalism
(penny press triggered it) era in which papers carried exciting human-interest stories, crime news, large headlines, and more readable copies; overly dramatic stories.
Investigative journalism
news reports that hunt out and expose corruption, particularly in business and government.
Objective journalism
This distinguishes factual reports from opinion columns
Inverted pyramid style
This is a story form for packaging and presenting objective reporting.
