Define Draw sheet
A single sheet folded in half under the patient and over the middle of the bed; may be used to facilitate patient transfer
Define Gait belt
Also called a transfer belt; should be used when assisting patients who are weak or unsteady
Define Orthostatic hypotension
Same as postural hypotension; a brief state of cerebral anoxia and low blood pressure occurring when an individual assumes a standing posture
Define sedation
An induced state of quiet, calmness, or sleep by means of a sedative or hypnotic medication
Define slide board
A method of patient transfer that uses a strong piece of plastic large enough to support the patient’s body with handholds cut into the edges
Define sliding mat
A method of patient transfer that uses a soft, tubular sheet of flexible fabric that features a low friction surface
Define spine board
A rigid carrying surface for an injured person, designed to prevent the movement of the spine during transportation to the hospital in order to prevent further damage to it
