Chapter 8 - Forces Flashcards
Atoms
A very small particle that makes up all things. Atoms have the same properties as the objects they make up.
Negatively charged
Any particle or substance that has more electrons than protons.
Positively charged
Any particle or substance that has more protons than electrons
Protons
Tiny, but heavy, particle found in the nucleus of an atom. Protons have a positive electrical charge
Neutrons
Tiny , but heavy, particles found in the nucleus of an atom. Neutrons have no electrical charge.
Electrons
Very light, negatively charged particles inside an atom. Electrons move around the central nucleus of an atom.
Insulators
Insulators materials that do not allow electric charge to flow through them.
Conductors
Materials that allow electric charge to flow through them.
Nucleus
Roundish structure inside cells that acts as the control centre for the cell.
Neutral
Having the same number of electrons and protons.
Static electricity
A build up of charge in one place.
Friction
Friction is the force applied to the surface of an object when it moves against the surface of another object.
Lubricant
A slippery substance to make things easier to move if there is a lot of friction on that surface.
Traction
A type of friction to assist movement.
