Chapter 7- Resources Flashcards
Fossil Fuel
A non-renewable resource, fossil fuels are a natural gas such as coal, petrol or gas.
Open-cut mining
Open-cut mining is a surface technique of extracting rock or minerals from the earth. Open-cut is a cheaper and safer technique of mining.
Mineral Ore
A substance that contains minerals of value, found when mining.
Black Coal
Black Coal is a fossil fuel that is not renewable , it is black and much dryer than brown coal.
Brown Coal
Brown coal is a fossil fuel that is not renewable (much like black coal) , only it is brown and much more moist. Brown coal also is more energy efficient.
Gangue
Gangue is the left over waste rock and mineral material.
Deposition
Deposition is the laying down of weathered rock materials.
Desalination
Desalination is the removal of salt from salt water to create fresh drinkable water.
Weathering
Weathering is when it rains , hails or it’s very and this weather make thing break down like the 12 apposiles.
Erosion
Erosion is the action of surface processes that remove soil , rock or dissolved material.
Biomass
Biomass is a renewable energy that is sourced by dead organic matter.
Mining
The extraction of the ground, when you dig to find materials of use such as mineral ore.
