Features of the genetic code

A

-Degenerate = most amino acids coded for by more than one triplet
-Always read in one direction
-Start of DNA sequence coding for polypeptide = start codon = codes for methionine
-3 triplets don’t code for an amino acid = stop codons - mark the end of polypeptide
-Non-overlapping = each bae in sequence only read once
-Universal
