Advanced Democracy
Connotes some end-stage for which nations will reach. Refers to nations with institutionalize democracy and a high level of economic development and prosperity. Embraces free markets and private property.
First World
Economically developed nations.
Second World
Communist states
Third World
Vast body of less-developed countries.
Modern country
Secular, rational, materialistic, technological, bureaucratic, and concerned more with individual freedom than collective equality.
Postmodern
A term for what evolutionary state of being nations will take on after the current systems.
Intergovernmental System
A postmodern idea. Like the United Nations, cooperate on issues and bound by resolutions.
Supranational System
Sovereignty is shared between member states and the organization. (EU)
Devolution
Power being spread out to more local level. Brings government closer to the public.
Postindustrialism
Bulk of profits are made in postindustrial nations, and most people are employed in the service sector.
Service sector
Work that involves not the creation of tangible goods, but industries such as finance, insurance, real estate, education, retail sales, transportation, high tech, etc…
