City-state
A sovereign state compromising the city and it’s immediately surrounding countryside
Anocracy
A country that is not fully democratic or fully autocratic, but rather displays a mix of the two types.
Autonomous Region
a self-ruled region within another country
Autocracy
a system of government by one person with absolute power.
Democracy
A political system in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who can elect people to represent them
Semi-autonomous region
an area where a group has some type of political autonomy.
Microstate
A state that encompasses a very small land area.
Confederation
an organization that consists of a number of parties or groups united in an alliance or league.
Federal
A system in which power is divided between the national and regional governments
Capitalism
An economic system based on private property and free enterprise.
Communism
a form of socialism that abolishes private ownership
Multinational State
A state that contains two or more ethnic groups with traditions of self-determination that agreed to come exist peacefully by recognizing each other as distinct nationalities
Nation-state
A state whose territory corresponds to that occupied by a particular ethnicity last been transformed into a nationality
Self-determination
The concept that ethnicities have the right to govern themselves
Sovereignty
The ability of a state to govern its territory free from the control of its internal affairs by others
