Chapter 8 Flashcards
DTH recall antigens
Candida, tetanus, mumps
Standardized DTH allergens=Tuberculin, Candida
Negative DTH test reasons
Anergy (cellular immunodeficiency, cancer, sarcoid, immunosuppressive therapy, severe atopic dermatitis, recent/recurrent infection), immediately after MMR vaccine, lack of exposure to antigen, weak antigen
Excessive DTH reaction seen in
Mutations of IL-12, IL-12R, IFN gamma, IFN gamma receptor
Washout periods for nasal provocation
Nasal antihistamines -3 days Oral antihistamines - 3-10 days Nasal cromones -3 days Nasal steroids - 7 days Oral steroids - 7 days Leukotriene receptor antagonist - 7 days Alpha adrenergic agonist - 1 day
Unilateral nasal provocation challenge increases what in the contralateral side
PGD2 and histamine (reflex activation of mast cells)
Secretion increase bilaterally, nasal airway resistance increases only on challenged side
Nasal provocation with methacholine
Ipsilateral response, does not induce nasal reflexes
Nasal provocation to histamine
Does not induce a late inflammatory response
Western blot used for
Lyme dz, hhv6, hhv8, HIV confirmatory test, HTLV, prion disease, RSV, SARS, VZV, hep B confirmatory test,
SPEP fractions
