Presentation
This is the lecture or instructional portion of the training. present skill one step at a time, begin with small concepts and move progressively to more complex information. Teach in positive terms avoid telling firefighters what not to do. Audiovisual aids and training props should be used to enrich presentation. Firefighters retain information more effectively when performing skill in the process of what learning it.

Application
Firefighters should demonstrate the task or skill under supervision. A good reinforcing technique is to have the firefighter explain the task while demonstrating the skill. Offer immediate feedback.

There should be an evaluation of the students progress at the end of the lesson. The fire officer can be certain training has occurred only when there is an observable change in firefighters performance when responding to a real situation.
