Chapter 8 Flashcards
What is electric potential energy
It is the change in a potential energy per coulomb of charge.
What do unlike Charles gain when they move father apart.
Potential electric energy
What is a common name for potential electric charge? What is it. Measured in?
Voltage. It is measured in volts.
What does electric energy depend on?
Amount of charge and voltage.
What are a common sources of voltage.
Electrochemical cells or batteries, we use voltage to measure potential differences.
What do a charges storm cloud and batteries have in common.
They both separate positive and negative charges.
What does a batterie provide?
Steady, controlled source of energy
What is a battery made up of (in basic)
Electrochemical cells or just one cell.
What are electrochemical cells?
They convert chemical energy into electrical energy stored in charges. They are commonly stored in batteries. In a battery they separate the positive and negative charges.
What are terminals?
The end points of the battery where we make the connection. Extra electrons accumulate in one of the terminals making it negatively charged. The other terminal lost those three electrons so it becomes positive. When the battery is plugged into the CD player, the electrons flow through the terminals and wires and into the player.
Energy?
The ability to do work
Kinetic energy?
Is emerge ya moving object has become because of its motion.
Potential energy
Potential energy is stored in an object. The electricity stored inside a battery is called electric potential energy, because the electrons stored have stored energy and the ability to do work after they leave the battery
How do electrons release from a battery
When It is connected with the device the electrons flow through the wires.
What does coulomb measure?
Charge
