Chapter 8 Flashcards
Hypertrophy refers to increase in muscle mass of
Myocardium
Can hypertrophy be completely diagnosed on an ekg?
No
Why ventricular hypertrophy occurs in left ventricle?
- systemic hypertension (systolic >140)
- aortic valve stenosis (must pump harder to push blood out)
Why ventricular hypertrophy occurs in right ventricle?
-pulmonary hypertension (lung obstructions like asthma)
-pulmonary valve stenosis
QRS characteristics of right ventricular hypertrophy
- Abnormally large R wave in V1-4
- Inverted T wave in V1
- RAD (vector pulls towards hyper side)
- Rightward rotation
Left ventricular hypertrophy criteria?
- exaggerated QRS amplitude
- LAD
- Large S wave in V1
- Large R wave in V5
- Add S wave + R wave > 35
For left ventricular hypertrophy you would see the T wave behave how? In what leads?
Inverted in V5/V6, long gradual decrease and sharp return
What is ventricular strain?
Ventricle straining against resistance, resulting in depressed and humped ST segment
Atrial enlargement results in
Diphasic p wave (positive and negative)
