CHAPTER 8 Flashcards
What is a probability distribution?
- a list of all possible outcomes together with their probabilities
what is the notation for binomial distribution?
- B(n, p)
- n= trials
- p= probability of success
conditions needed for a binomial distribution:
- fixed number of trials
- trials are independent
- two possible outcomes for each trial (success and failure)
probabilities for binomial distribution expansion:
(p + q) ^n
p= success
q= failure
n= trials
what is the mean of binomial distribution?
np
what do the coefficients of a binomial expansion follow?
- follow the pattern of Pascal’s triangle
how can you find the coefficients of a binomial expansion?
- using the nCr button on a calculator
what does a normal distribution look like?
- bell shaped
conditions needed for a normal distribution:
- data is continuous
- distribution is symmetrical and bell- shaped
- the mode, median and mean are approximately equal
notation for normal distribution:
N( u(mew), o^2)
u (mew)= mean
o^2= variance
standardised score equation:
score- mean/ standard deviation
what is quality assurance?
- involves checking samples to ensure that the product of a manufacturing process meets the required standard
what can you construct if you take samples at regular intervals?
- control charts
what is a control chart?
- a time series chart that is used for quality assurance
where are warning limits set?
u (mew) ±2o (o with line)
