Military alliance for South East Asia countries (though many European countries joined), collective security, South East Asia Treaty Organisation

Some important countries (e.g. South Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia) were not a part of it
What was the purpose of SEATO?
USA were building a network of military alliances to encircle, make sure US soldiers don’t die in foreign wars, USA provide a nuclear umbrella to allow regional allies to use ground troops to respond to communist aggression, people die = president unpopular
