Chapter 8 Flashcards
IP Addresses
What are the 5 wifi standards used?
802.11a,b,g,n,ac
802.11a
5GHz with 54Mbps throughput
802.11b
2.4GHz with 11Mbps throughput
802.11g
2.4GHz with 54Mbps throughput
802.11n
Either 2.4 or 5GHz with 600Mbps throughput
802.11ac
5GHz with 1.3Gbps
MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output)
Allows for fast speeds and dual frequencies when dealing with 802.11n. Beamforming is used with 802.11ac
Important wifi channels
1,6,11
Channels
Smaller bands (mini categories) of wireless frequency. Used to have frequencies not interfere with each other. All under the same frequency.
SSID (Service Set Identifier)
The name of your wifi
Wireless Security Methods
WEP (Wireless Encryption Privacy) - Weakest encryption. Uses RC4 encryption.
WPA (Wifi Protected Access)- Uses TKIP
WPA2 (Wifi Protected Access)- Strongest. Considered best practice. Uses AES encryption.
MAC Filtering
Allows or denies devices access to your network based on their MAC address
QoS (Quality of Service)
Allows you to prioritize network traffic for devices and
applications for network optimization
Port Forwarding
the process of configuring a router to make a network device that is connected to it accessible to other computers and other network devices outside of the LAN
