Chance
Even if sampling bias is delt with, there is still a possibility that by pure chance the individuals choses may not be representative
Sampling bias
Investigators may be selecting unrepresentative choices, either deliberately or unwittingly
Random sampling
1) . Divide area into grid
2) . Using random numbers generated from a computer select random grid references
3) .Take samples at each grid reference
Mutation
Sudden changes to genes that may or may not be passed to further generations
Meiosis
Special form of nuclear division that forms the gametes
mixes up genetic material before it is passed into the gametes, all of which are therefore different
Fusion of gametes
Which gamete fuses with which at fertilisation is random, furthering the variety
